Young folks vs. Old folks

When Old Man Warner stated that the "young folks" were a "pack of crazy fools", in a way, he is both correct and incorrect. It is true, that younger people are more naive and do stupid things sometimes. Older people like Old Man Warner already went through this period of time and learned from his mistakes, becoming the mature person he is. For example, someone came up to a naive person and said "I'm going to give you a million dollars if you will give me your computer". An offer like this is quite tempting, so the person will accept it, then discover later to his dismay that someone just "stole" his computer. A mature person, on the other hand , will think that this deal is indeed "too good to be true", thus he will not make such a mistake. This proves why Warner was correct.

However, he is incorrect, because it is usually young people who want change in a sometimes backward society. Since they are young, they have not fully adapted to he current, allowing for some tolerance for change. For example, an old person who was born at a time when Europeans were considered the superior of the human race might have a hard time accepting the fact that the current President of the U.S. is African! Younger people are taught that this view is racist, so they will have no problem accepting the fact. The same is true when Old Man Warner complains about the younger generation abolishing the stoning ritual. He grew up and fully adapted (considering his age) to a society which practices this tradition, so abolishing it seemed ridiculous. However, in this modern era, we all know that human sacrifice rituals cause unnecessary violence and suffering; it is barbaric. In this view Warner's statement about "young folks" is clearly flawed and biased.
